Track and field star Alica Schmidt shared a bikini picture from her recent beach holiday to Bali on Instagram which set the pulses of her 2.8million Instagram followers racing.

German athlete Alica Schmidt sent her fans into meltdown with a picture from her recent beach holiday to Bali.

The 400m runner, who was once named the "Sexiest Athlete in the World" by Australian magazine 'Busted Coverage’, shared the bikini snap to her 2.8million Instagram followers. She wrote: "Can‘t wait to be back in the sun tomorrow #trainingcamp #gettingready #throwback #bali #nusapenida."

The comments were much more focused on Schmidt, 23, than anything to do with the Bali weather. The love heart and heart eyes emojis flooded in as one wrote: "Amazing angel!" Others replies included "Just insane" and "Beautiful mermaid".

Schmidt is now soaking up the rays once again as she has returned to Canary Island Tenerife, where she has stayed on multiple occasions in the past for training camps.

Uploads to her social media account show her back out on the track as she prepares to get competing again. "Almost that time again! When the racing seasons starts. 3, 2, 1," Schmidt posted alongside the clips of her running.

She was part of the Germany squad who travelled to Tokyo last summer, but didn't make her Olympics debut after missing out on a spot in both the women’s and mixed 4x400m relay events.

That led to her announcing a break from the sport last August, writing at the time: "Not gonna lie, I’m not satisfied with my races this year. I’ve worked harder than ever before day in day out pushed my limits in every workout and made so many sacrifices.

"It was not an easy year with my Covid infection and torn ligaments but nevertheless, I know what I am capable of and I’m hungry for more. Now, I’m going to take a break and I’m looking forward to coming back feeling fresh and ready to train hard again."

Schmidt has since put the heartbreak behind her, registering her fastest season opener earlier this year after putting in the work to up her speed.
